Shahrukh Khan’s plans of making his RA.ONE as the sole release this Diwali have been foiled with Himesh Reshammiya confirming that he would be bringing his DAMADAMM on the same weekend as well. Though from screen count perspective it won’t make much difference to RA.ONE, the very fact that DAMADAMM has actually dared to step in as competition has ended up surprising quite a few.

“When it was earlier announced that Himesh Reshammiya’s fifth film as an actor, DAMADAMM, would be arriving on 27th October, many didn’t take that seriously since RA.ONE had already confirmed its plans for the same weekend. In fact Shahrukh had taken an early lead by showcasing the first look of the film way back during the World Cup cricket itself. Post that there were quite a few other teasers that were circulated by the makers of RA.ONE that ensured that it stayed in news,” observes a trade pundit.

However DAMADAMM hung on to its promotional plans till the right moment. Now that the film’s promos are being showcased full swing, it is pretty much an official announcement that Himesh has definite plans for DAMADAMM this Diwali.”

When asked about the clash of DAMADAMM with RA.ONE, Himesh said that there wasn’t much to read into it. He reasons, “RA.ONE is the biggest film of the year and I am sure it would be superb. However there is always a room for a good romantic comedy on Diwali. There couldn’t have been a better release date. I am very confident of its music becoming a huge hit just like it has been the case with the music of BODYGUARD.”

Well, as long as it benefits the industry, we look forward to that for sure.

I’d gladly do it and look super hot too. But sadly, I am only getting performance-oriented roles (HALLA BOL and JAIL) where I am dressed from top to toe.

Even in my next movie GHOST opposite Shiney (Ahuja), I play a doctor. Even in Tinu Verma’s THIS WEEKEND, I play a tomboy except for that one song with Rajneesh (Duggal) wherein I have donned a sexy orange bikini. Thank God for small mercies. I have no inhibitions about looking sexy. I am quite comfortable with my hot body. I want to wear bikinis. Sayali Bhagat in a bikini would definitely add value to any film!” says Sayali, who has also replaced Ameesha Patel in tennis star Leander Paes’s launch vehicle Rajdhani Express.

An Economics graduate from Massachusetts, Ameesha Patel started her career with two blockbusters KAHO NAA PYAAR HAI and GADAR – EK PREM KATHA, both being quintessential masala affairs. Now that she is turning producer by making a film each with Priyadarshan and David Dhawan, she is sure that entertainment would be the key word for these productions as well. She also reaffirms that none of her newer ventures would be frivolous by any means.

“Films that I am making with David (Dhawan) and Priyan would boast of a certain standard; there would be an educated class to it. I think now is the best opportunity for me to fuse my education and upbringing. Also, there would be good budget set aside for both these films. If I am getting into the production arena, it better be a classy and grand affair; there won’t be any cutting corners here,” says Ameesha.

While it is believed that both her films would be reasonably expensive affairs, Ameesha states that there is no hard and bound rule that she has set for herself for the future projects that she would undertake.

“These two films are being mounted on a huge scale because the subject demands that. However tomorrow if something interesting comes up that can be justified to be finished within 5-10 crores itself, I won’t mind that. Eventually I have to make sure that the subject is good and it is viable enough to be made in a certain kind of budget. I am educated enough to make such decisions while being practical,” Ameesha talks business here.

While at least one of the two films is expected to go on floors this year, both would feature Ameesha as the leading lady and would release before end of next year

The spotlight’s on actor Hrithik Roshan’s interior designer wife, Sussanne.  She has just been nominated for the prestigious global lifestyle awards. Quintessentially Asia Pacific, in the interior designer of the year category. The ceremony will be held in Hong Kong on November 1.

“I was totally taken aback when I got the mail about my nomination. Hrithik was the first person I shared the news with, as he has always supported  my work. He will be accompanying me to the awards ceremony and these days, we often joke about how I have always tagged along with him for his award functions, and now it’s his turn to do the same,” says the star wife.  Sussanne has been nominated for her Mumbai based interiors store, The Charcoal Project.

The awards, launched in the UK in 2000, honour the finest luxury and lifestyle brands across globe. Other nominees in the category include big international names such as Thomas Hamel from Australia, Aedas, the international design firm that has also worked on the New Delhi Metro, and Alan Chan of Hong Kong.

Awed by the list of nominees, Sussanne says, “Winning or losing doesn’t matter now. It was honourable enough that the organisers had come to check out my store and found it worthy.”

After a long gap, Soha Ali Khan is returning to the big screen again. A musical, SOUNDTRACK features her along with Rajeev, both of whom are playing two matured youngsters who are physically disabled. Due to such characterization, Soha gets emotional as she remembers how her dad too had fought quite a few battles as he challenged all adversities pertaining to physical handicap and still moved up in his career.

“My dad had lost one eye but still went on to overcome all obstacles and ended up captaining the Indian cricket team. Everyone said that it would be impossible for him to even face a single delivery but he managed due to his strong conviction,” Soha says with pride in her voice, “I took a cue from that and approached my character in a similar manner.

This young woman I play has a speech impediment but then her other senses are well in place to allow her to live her life happily. It is with this confidence that I motivate Rajeev’s character as well who is quite disillusioned after finding out that he wasn’t able to hear well.”

Detailing the film’s setting further, Soha says, “Audience would see Rajeev struggle with his disability while this girl continues to motivate him to live his life independently. Once Rajeev is inspired enough, he learns how to read lips and use that as a tool to communicate with others. On the other hand I would come across as someone free spirited enough to be this perfectly normal fun loving confident woman who is completely bohemian. She uses sign language and other expressions and gestures so that she is totally independent.”

Directed by debutant Neerav Ghosh, SOUNDTRACK releases all over on 30th September.
